SYRRA WASP

Citing their influences as The Knife, The Acid and Warpaint, Syrra are the dark sisters of this minimalist, electronic, fragmented and experimental scene, having already shook us to the core with singles ‘I Can Be Mean’ and ‘Sick’. Not straying too far from this glacial alt-pop mould, ‘Wasp’ is a startling left-field track that bears its soul with elastic beatwork, ambient electronic strings and abstracted lyrics, such as “I’m a hag digging for gold / Look dear I’m empty, I’m empty, I’m empty / Hour glass without a soul / Look dear I’m empty, I’m empty, I’m empty.” This haunting image almost takes a physical hold of the listener as we’re mesmerised by the otherworldly production, ghost-like vocals and unique performance by the creative sisters of Aneta and Sinah in their lo-fi music video. - Hannah Thacker
